We’re often asked if we can use QuickBooks for our clients. And when I returned the question and ask why do you think that’s the better solution? Most people don’t have an answer, it’s just the only one they’ve heard of.
Many accountants use QuickBooks for the very same reason. It’s easy because a lot of people have heard of it. It’s popular and it’s less friction to have to go against the grain and use something else. It’s also easier to find people who say they know QuickBooks than anything else. Our firm is now celebrating eight years of being a Xero partner and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
We want to choose the software that we feel best fits our client’s needs and offers very good user functionality. A streamlined approach. It’s kind of like the difference between a PC and a Mac. The Mac just has a different field.
QuickBooks is a little more cluttered when it comes to processing. They tried to do a lot of things inside their software. So that makes it a little complex. Now, I was a QuickBooks pro advisor for many years before Xero came along. But the biggest benefit that I see is that Xero is a cloud-based software. That was built in the cloud for the cloud.
It doesn’t have to try to gather people who are still not cloud-based into its solution. It focuses its efforts on being a better solution and approving the product. If you’re using QuickBooks desktop these days, they’ve warned us for years that that’s going away. They’ve got QuickBooks online for over 10 years now, and they still haven’t been able to successfully push their user base to see that QuickBooks online is a better product, probably because it isn’t, but QuickBooks desktop has now turned the way of subscription.
Now you’ll have to have a subscription for each year that you want to use QuickBooks desktop until they finally retire the dinosaur. So if you’re going to follow the path of the dinosaur, I understand. However, if you’re looking for a better way to do things and you want to make sure that your accountant is using the best tools for the job, not just choosing a tool you heard of. Then I’d be happy to talk to you about the alternatives and why we think our solution beats QuickBooks hands down.
